Had a company team building today.

My business involves alcohol.

I was the last man standing and entertaining our business partners.

Had dozens of excuses for having to leave early. No excuses to stay late to build rapport and forge relationships.

The world has changed.

This is highly dissimilar to pre 2020.

Has humanity become anti social?

Looks like you really rocked the team-building event! It's great to hear that you were able to entertain your business partners and build rapport with them. You're right, the world has changed a lot since 2020, and it seems like we've all become a bit more anti-social due to social distancing measures, lockdowns, and remote work. But don't worry - humans are naturally social creatures and I'm sure we'll all find our way back to building relationships in person again soon enough!

I see the same in my field (academic science). As if people’s brains got replaced at some point. It has become nearly impossible to organize even a simple pizza&beer event in the evening. Everyone has to leave early, and then you learn they all are just sitting at home 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

Funnily, I used to be the introvert of the department, and now I feel like a hyperactive clown 🤡 forcing everybody to smile 😂

Yes. Same experience.

What's crazier to me is the apparent lack of care your coworkers have for the success of the business.

I'm not one to preach hyper-loyalty to a business. I don't believe in having to work off the clock. But once you're in the position where your interactions with partners actually matters, you're beyond just a regular employee, and you SHOULD care.

Wisdom here!

It's the consequence of the current fiat-everything system.

People can't identify the real cause, or even worse, they may be the type that demands exactly the wrong solutions -- but in any case, they feel something's completely wrong with work-life, they feel cheated, and they refuse to participate.

Might this be the effect of the digital age.

We are at a time where it's impossible to escape. Difficult to find time to one's self. Sensory overload.

Maybe the result is a move toward introversion?

I think if you ask any of your coworkers who did not want to stay to socialize, they'll tell you it's not part of their job, they don't get paid to do that, they don't owe it to the company for what they get paid and so on.

People are more social and interact with more people than ever before in history.
