Rough day of being a new #chicken owner today.

I had to cull a chicken and butcher it today. Sunny (youngest dog) got ahold of our best egg layer when the electric fence was off during the power outage and it seemed like it was doing better the past two days. Came home today and the other hens were eating it alive from the bite wound.

Lesson learned: 1. Any time you have an injured chicken be sure to isolate it to let it get back to full health. 2. I got a solar energizer for the chicken fence so we don’t have to rely on the grid power.

The one positive is we ended up with about 2lbs of chicken we’re going to eat tomorrow.

You can also hit wounds with blue coat. The chickens seem less interested in pecking wounds when they’re blue.

Thank you for that advise. I will check that out.

Guess it would help if I used the correct spelling, it’s blu-kote.

I found it at our tractor supply. Figured that’s what you meant
