In the last week or so, I’ve seen two users on here called out for receiving Zaps but not Zapping back. Both posted here. These people are being labeled as “scammers” whom should be avoided, muted, and not supported with Sats.

This all makes me wonder, what is the appropriate #V4V zaps sent vs zaps received ratio?

1 sat in 1 sat out? 2 to 1? 1 to 3?

Should there be a ratio? What makes a good Nostr participant?

Some people are on here trying to earn sats, that might be the point? Should they be ostracized? Is it how upfront they are about what they’re doing that makes the difference?

Some are fortunate to receive generous zaps ⚡️? Should they be labeled scammer?

I’ve included my zaps in and out to save everyone the effort. I’ve received a very large amount of zaps in mostly from lots of signs planing and sticker slapping for nostr:nprofile1qqsrmqhg7mxxczt9gjln8ey8tgpl2cq2elm7c3n7z59pe3m395s5mjgnfsua2 but only have 42k out. Is that enough to not be a scammer?

Just curious everyone’s take. Not sure the social norms here have been clearly set.

Update already nostr:nprofile1qqstzt0wugc7sklvr8e7fcl7ukyn63ym3ns4nmf2mnk0vqnz4l9x65q4mm7kq addressed the call out of scamming with a legitimate response, “he’s learning”. This is my exact concern and point.

I don’t recall accusing him of being a scammer or telling anyone to mute/block him. Please don’t misrepresent my shitpost as something it wasn’t. I simply pointed out that his stats didn’t line up with his statement that he likes to use the zap button more than the like button. Seemed a bit disingenuous worth calling out publicly, but saying I accused him of being scammer is taking it way too far.

That’s fair. And your call out was fair too. I understood that his statement did not match his actions. You weren’t the only one pointing discrepancies between zapping and being zapped. I did lump your post today with other posts that called accounts “scammers”. I should have been more clear.

I was more trying to comment on the recent trend of calling out accounts who don’t zap as much as they are zapped. I’m not sure that’s cultural we want. Case in point with your post today, Dr Ken had a valid response, he learning.

As I shared, I haven’t zapped nearly what I have been zapped. But I’m trying to be an honest active positive Nostr neighbor and I think most on here are as well. Probably naive on my part.

Ps: keep up your shit posting, I find value from them 🫡

All good 🫂🫡 More discussion is better than less. Just wanted to clarify my comments for anyone coming across your thread since you had quoted my note. My criticism was about the discrepancy of what he said he’s doing vs what he appears to be doing, not the amount he’s sending.

Personally, I don’t think it’s healthy for people to start nitpicking the ratio of how much someone sends vs. receives. Zaps are payments. Some people zap to pay each other back for dinner, or to pay for products, etc. Some people have zapped me to pay for graphics I made for them off nostr, or for winning contests, for instance. Some people create a LOT of good content and they probably deserve to get zapped more than they zap out. Some people zap themselves lol, or have zap battles where they’re sending large amounts back and forth for kicks and giggles. Zaps in vs. zaps out is not a simple one size fits all scenario where there’s a “good” or “bad” ratio.

These are all great points that I didn’t even think of. Zap ratio should not a measurement of anything.

That’s my position on it. There are too many unknown variables. Anyone could easily spin up a few dozen npubs and anonymous wallets and zap the same sats to themself over and over again to make it look like they’re zapping out millions upon millions of sats. Or vice versa, to make it look like they’re receiving far more sats than I they actually have. I suspect some specific people of doing this already, but no way to know for sure 😂

There is no optimal ratio.

If you are mainly on nostr consuming content than you will probably send more than you receive.

If you're creating a lot of value for others than it makes sense you'd receive more than you've sent.

nostr:nprofile1qqs8cajagp7n48275ytuhzuxn93g2crc0lqgfgx8dta2gjdlh5fpmpq2t829j love to hear you riff on this topic. You are a smart guy who has insightful takes.

Maybe I'll discuss this on a future show!

It is an interesting topic.

I think its just another data point. Everyone can see your notes. If you're genuinely contributing and interacting, I dont think your zap ratio really matters. But it's a knock on reputation if you post very little, respond rarely, and generally act like a sats harvester (like those that only show up for zapathons.)

Agree. We should get to know the accounts around us and judge if they are an honest actor. If you yourself are an active user, it is obvious who is not. 🫡

With #V4V you can send whatever you want or nothing at all

People just being dumb. Stuck inside the Nostr bubble too long. I think whoever should be allowed to come and just only send out sats (maybe its their marketing platform) or only just receive zaps (like you said, its a great place to stack if thats what you are looking for!)

I get supporting the cause and movement, and but theres so many different and other ways to do that also.

Everyone need ls to just do what THEY want. Thought that was the whole fuggin point of #nostr in the first place 🤣🤷‍♂️

What app shows the stats

Nostr.band

It’s a website

I think you missed the point. It’s not that he doesn’t ϟ much, it’s the claim that he zaps more than he likes. Nostr provides the receipts. You don’t have to zap, but if you don’t, don’t claim that you do.

No zaps on this account. Personal preference. Everyone should mind their own business. Freedom looks different to everyone.

Interesting perspective to not have zaps on this account. Never even thought about that as a deliberate option. Thanks for sharing. You got a like since zaps aren’t an option. 👍🏼🫡

There’s some ROI on minimum generosity on Nostr- as we can see if you don’t give back enough you may get called out. Probably a different ratio for everyone. Matters not only how much you’ve received/given but also how often and the context of your account (i.e. are you creating value). If your position is defensible to a reasonable person you are probably gonna be okay.

The best part is you can show what side of the argument you are on by how you continue to zap these accounts
