I think there is a similar inverse truth that is hard to state clearly. A lot of people think they are close to God because they have read "His book," but there are patterns of behavior in the people all around us & there are distortions in our own history that make it possible to begin to actually unravel the distortions of thousands of years of religion. But for the most part, I think religion mostly disrances people from God.

All religion is man claiming knowledge (of god) and then asserting power over other men based on that claim.

Always has been.

On the other hand to create something useful is to demonstrate knowledge of God, & offering your creations as a trade, demands nothing of anyone else except the same respect you afford them in your dealings. God said "create well."

Great post, I love thinking through things like this 🤙

As a devout Christian, I largely agree. It sounds trite but I don’t think Jesus came to set up a religion as we know of the term. The church was little revolutionary outposts meeting in homes, sacrificing for their neighbors and living rich, meaningful lives. I don’t think tradition is all bad but it has certainly often distracted us from the core of Jesus’ teaching: love Gos and love our neighbors.

Amen to this

That quote resonates with me even though I’ve been secular the entire time.
