Taking a risk sharing this here... but I'm feeling adrift and trying to figure out how best to use my limited time on Earth to do something positive and meaningful. I know I've been given so much, and feel a strong pull to use all these gifts for good. Just need to choose a direction to throw my energy where I can actually make a difference. But where, and how? Anybody else in this boat now or in the past? How did you find your way?

That is a tough question.

Do you feel a pull in any direction?

Do something you love for somebody else, not expecting anything in return.

Practice forgiveness, not for the others to feel good, but for yourself.

Selfcare, take time for yourself.

Feel better 💖

hi sarah. you sound like you are fairly high in conscientiousness (one of the big 5 personality traits). understanding my personality and my values really helped me choose a direction. soon i will become a primary care doctor and i am very happy with where i am(:

When in doubt, focus out. Figure out how you can help someone and provide value instead of getting lost in your own thoughts or situation.

You don’t have to figure out your whole life’s mission in one go- iterative decision making is huge.

Basically make one small decision, course correct from there, another decision, etc.

If someone was coming to you wanting this same advice what would you tell them?

Removing ourselves and looking at things from a 3rd party observer perspective can definitely help.

Lots of meditation and some consciousness altering substances have helped me see things as an observer.

Keep us posted on your journey!

Thank you very much!

You don't have to hyper-focus on one area, path, or purpose in life to make a difference. Allow yourself to experience the full range of what your lifespan offers to you, a lot of little positive actions can be just as meaningful as single-mindedly pursuing a solitary goal. When you have the option to be kind and open to someone who is hurting, chose to be kind.

Is it possible that you can find one or two subtle ways to show grace and compassion to strangers that cross your path? Is there someone you know who is struggling and you can reach out and let them know they are not alone? Can you wink at a playful child, hold the door for a burdened stranger, or put a dish of water out for a thirsty creature?

Tiny actions can ripple out and affect things you'll never ever be conscious of. I appreciate your heart, love wins in the end.

Thank you. This is what my loved ones have been telling me - don't underestimate the impact of the sum of many small positive touches. ::sigh:: It's just hard to measure/see that, you know? I'm just feeling the old, "to whom much is given, much is expected."

Whats worked for me, is focusing on what I enjoy. I know that sounds self serving, but here me out...

1) When I do what I enjoy, I find myself able to accomplish 100x compared to when I force myself to trudge through something I don't enjoy.

2) I like to help others, so I naturally try to help others when I do something. I'm even more generous when I'm working on something I enjoy doing. This is also when I am more creative.

#2 means I will be more generous and creative in finding a way to help others, and #1 means any bit of good I can do will have a 100x efficiency multiplier. In combination, I think I've managed to do lots of good, just by chasing my own dreams.

Thank you for this perspective. I totally hear you. I think my challenge is choosing what dreams to pursue and then finding ways to do that while still earning a living, if that makes sense.

Do something. “Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”

You’ll learn what steps to take from the steps you’ve taken.

Where is that poem from? What a lovely sentiment. Thank you!

It’s the chorus from Leonard Cohen’s Anthem.
