It’s not entirely clear here whether we’re talking about ethnic Russians or citizens of Russia. In English, both are referred to simply as “Russians” but in Russian there’s a distinction — and in reality, there are very few actual ethnic Russians, while among the latter group (citizens), there are more Ukrainians than ethnic Russians.

The very first Russian to die in the conflict in Ukraine was, ironically, a Ukrainian.
