Fun idea in principal, but a simply awful talent acquisition strategy in practice. Hope they didn’t put any actual weight into that question!
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.
If you want to be lucky, you need to prepare yourself.
When you constantly learn and keep an open mind, you multiply the quantity of potential opportunities that you can identify and act upon to bring a positive spin in your life.
Being lucky is mostly deliberate.
Reminds me of this paragraph from the book Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. “Sam used to say that Marx was the most fortunate person he had ever met- he was lucky with lovers, in business, in looks, in life. But the longer Sadie knew Marx, the more she thought Sam hadn’t truly understood the nature of Marx’s good fortune. Marx was fortunate because he saw everything as if it were a fortuitous bounty. It was impossible to know- were persimmons his favorite fruit, or had they just now become his favorite fruit because they were, growing in his own backyard?”

The irony with this passage is how the CEO of Zappos, Tony Hsieh, died. Burned alive in a locked room of a family members house over the Thanksgiving holiday 2020. Talk about unlucky! His death doesn’t pass the sniff test for me, I think someone wanted him dead.
