They only recently started blocking ad blockers.
On mobile web I just refresh the page when there’s an ad. This works well.
On desktop web I also just refresh the page when there’s an ad. This works less well.
Why don't you use NewPipe or whatever alternative clients? There is a desktop native installable one.

They tried blocking Firefox + uBlock and failed. I haven't seen an ad for months, and hadn't seen one for years using Brave browser, before this last failed attempt by YT.

Idk I just sit there and wait. I suppose I could get an adblocker. The last one I tried stop working at some point.
If on Android, look into the newpipe Software and the f-droid store while you're at it. Unfortunately I cant help you with Apple products.

YouTube with ads? Most people actually, and they have no idea.
Now, since we are here, let's go deeper.
Ad = attention towards something. So the videos themselves are actually ads, because the algo promotes something and hides other things. Of course I'm not logged in, and neither are you I assume. However the search is also algo. And the videos contain ads.
You tube is nothing but ads :-) .. there is no entertainment there .. it's a way to rot your mind into one narrative from another .. hahah ..

Are people addicted to youtube? If I watch something there a few times a week, just deciding to watch what I want, why to feed the big tech? By paying them you help them to enslave us and promote wars. Thats another perspective but of course if you are a regular user you may want to pay for the service with better quality (with no adds)
People are addicted to TV-style media. Jewtube is just one big portal for such.

Freetube for pc/laptop works great also. In my world ads doesn't exist anymore. Sometimes when I see something on other peoples phone I realize they still are there🙃
