what is a descriptor?

Also, I tried to import a sparrow testnet descriptor and it failed (only single key descriptor). Doesn't it work when it has this format: wpkh([4f03c765/84h/1h/0h]tpub...ixc/<0;1>/*)#7v2kkrz8 ?
