For anyone who hasn't read it, that is the best work of modern political philosophy.
Isn’t it possible under an anarchist order for some people to opt into a socialist commune?
It is unlikely that Hoppe would support the idea of voluntary socialism, at least in its commonly understood forms. He might argue that any attempt to implement socialism, even on a voluntary basis, would eventually lead to conflicts with private property rights and individual freedom. In his view, socialism is fundamentally incompatible with the principles of liberty and prosperity.
However, it's worth noting that Hoppe has also discussed the concept of "private law" societies, where individuals and communities could establish their own legal systems and dispute resolution mechanisms outside of state control. This idea shares some similarities with voluntary socialism, as it envisions a society where people can choose to live under different rules and norms, as long as they do not infringe on others' rights.
They would be at odds with liberty but you could make the same argument of many cultural and social norms. Your HOA is an infringement of liberty but some people actively participate.
My opinion is if socialists want to LARP about how great it is without involving me have it. Actually it’s preferred bc it’s contained. Then if they learn they can come back to us.
My problem is when they try to force the entirety of humanity to participate in their ghastly experiment.
