A study that included 61 million women found that Depo-Provera increases risk of meningioma (brain tumour that can cause seizures, paralysis, and vision) by 240%, a risk the Pfizer criminal enterprise was aware of. I wonder how many drugs out there that were deemed to be "safe and effective" but are more dangerous than advertised? 🤔

I can’t believe they are still administering Depo-Provera. When I was 16, unbeknownst to my parents, I went to planned parenthood for birth control and was convinced the “shot” depo-provera was the best way to go. One shot totally fucked up my body for almost a year, I bled almost every day, my hormones went haywire. I knew they were experimenting with my body and I never took it again.

I did subsequently develop a tumor on my pituitary gland that needed to be removed by a brain surgeon. I have no way of knowing if this was related but it could have been.

This one act of rebellion had extreme consequences, don’t take this, don’t let your daughters take it.

Researchers looked at millions of women and found that 5+yr use of Depo‑Provera correlated with a 2-3x higher chance (i.e. 200% -300% risk increase) of getting a meningioma (usually benign fyi).

About 5 in 100,000 would normally get it in a year, so long‑term Depo use might raise that to around 15 in 100,000

relative risk goes up, but the absolute risk stays low

most women will never get this tumor

risk mainly matters for very long use

this isn't the only risk associated with the shot

everyone dies

If I had been informed that this shot would result in a 2x-3x higher chance of getting a brain tumor (usually benign whatever) I would have never taken it…as a 16 year-old it’s even more unforgivable. Also the argument that everyone dies related to avoidable side effects from medication is dumb, defeatist, and actually nihilistic.

But you could get the one that causes vision. That's not so bad I guess.

It’s vision loss G force G, keep up. 🤣

Totally agree. Informed consent should actually mean informed. Downplaying or hiding potential long-term side effects, especially for young people, is unacceptable. Calling that kind of negligence “normal” is exactly how trust gets destroyed.

In your state of rebellion back then if the doc told you that your chances of benign brain tumor were 5 in 100k and in this drug raised that to 10-15 in 100k would it have made a difference? Especially when the DEATH rate due to pregnancy complications in the 90s was 8 - 12 in 100k (18 per 100k today)? And severe maternal morbidities are 1,000 per 100k (yay, US healthcare) nowadays?

You're playing odds.

i didn't make the argument that everyone dies from avoidable side effects from medication. Strawmen belong in gardens, not conversations 🤙

Also I am not advocating for giving depo to rebellious 16yo girls. It's a legit med with legit uses. Clinicians should have the moral fortitude to refuse to prescribe inappropriate medicines and call out maladaptive behavior in their patients.

As expected

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How’s this for maladaptive behavior… Fuck off big pharma cuck.

I'm glad you're ok now Fren and sharing so others can be informed and make the right decision.
