I like the idea of it. I tested moving over from 1Password, which I’ve been using for a decade or so. My experience: it’s not even half baked.

Have you tried it?

yes, i have. i am actively testing it. it's not packed with features yet and no file storage, but proton moves/tests steady and slowly. since proton aquired simplelogin, i feel it will be integrated (can compose email from alias addresses).

i do however find android integration to be much better than bitwarden. i can't speak to 1Password as I stopped using it a decade ago and it is not open source.

that said, i submit it's not good opsec to have your vpn and passwords associated with your email (a form of online id). i recommend protonpass for normies (over 1Password for sure). it helps reduce copy pasting more than bitwarden in my experience.

Bitwarden (paid) and Keepass are still tops in my book.

What keeps you using 1Password?

Slow, they definitely are. :)

To your last question: it’s the best UX and utility by 10x; others aren’t even close. Yes, there’s risk in being close source, but I use it probably 100 times every day. The amount of time it’s saved me I wouldn’t begin to be able to measure.

What browser do you use/prefer? I'm using brave nightly but the protonpass integration broke a couple of weeks ago..

And are you convinced pwa's are safe?

know your threat model. pwms are far safer than using a password you can remember and/or reusing passwords. that said, for mission critical data, i recommend keepass on an airgapped device or qubesos qube. not a fan of brave. haven't experienced any issues with LibreWolf

3 copies min. i also recommend using physical, etched steel for seed phrases and mission critical data

Not pwm's 😉 I use those 🫡

I mean pwa/progressive web app.

I'll check librewolf thx 👍

lol. gotcha. i understand their purpose. i'm just not a huge fan considering native applications allow for greater security (certificate pinning, mfa etc).

So your recommendation is only to use pwa when a native app is not available? Like protonpass on manjaro to sort out those vaults and aliases 😉

I've been using proton for many years now but the development on the Linux side of their products is lagging.. Pwa's do have an added value there..

i agree. pwas have their place, but as generalized advice, i recommend using dedicated apps whenever possible for increased security. also, yes the vibe i've gotten when on with proton support is the linux market is not big enough for them to lead with their best foot forward.

that said, proton vpn still has better qubesos integration (gui works for on the fly server switching) than mullvad since the 4.2 update.

i've been in touch with the person who will likely be updating the mullvad vpn install instructions for QOS 4.2.

i'm rooting for it to overtake proton vpn on qubesos. i prefer mullvad vpn to proton, well save for the limited simultaneous active connections, lack of ip address option for splittunneling, and lack of out of the box qubesos 4.2 gui integration

I'll keep a eye out for those development updates and check out mulvad. Thanks for the advice.

Zaps not working will try later 🫡

thx. direct to ln address usually works 🫡

wait, you're using wos and i'm in the states. thx anyway, glad you found the convo useful 🤙🏻

Im using nostr:npub1mutnyacc9uc4t5mmxvpprwsauj5p2qxq95v4a9j0jxl8wnkfvuyque23vg to zap, I just use wos as receiver node until I've got time to setup my lnurl 😅 it's still not coming through 🤨 maybe tomorrow GN 😴

This is the most useless Proton product they ever made. Uncomfortable and very disturbing. I don't like the idea they are leaving there safespace they build for years or at least not like this.
