I loved the book fair when I was in elementary school. I still have one book for sure from one and my mom had wrote in it when I got it. It is easily one of my childhood favourites. I would want my children to have a similar experience and while the books are cheaper online I think offering an amount for at least one book on the e-wallet would still allow for a nice experience. Most books are less than $20 and they often have bookmarks and posters available. Perhaps it can still be a teaching moment where they can see how far they can stretch their limit; either with one book and a couple little things or maybe two books and maybe they pick up a bookmark as a gift for a friend. ☺️

I honestly don’t remember my book fair days, lol. My problem is that I can’t get my money back. I never buy books from Scholastic, and being forced to do so makes it worse because, otherwise, it feels like throwing away whatever is left.

Do you have local book exchanges ‘book nooks’? We love those! Also local book stores that offer trade ins are great. I stopped doing scholastic in favour of those.

We do have little boxes in some neighborhoods and parks where you can grab a book and leave a book. We don’t have many cute local book stores - I’ll have to find out. Yeah I don’t like scholastics- they are a rip off but I get that it’s the experience the kids have - it’s just annoying they are forcing this e-wallet 😓

I understand where you’re coming from. What about setting a limit? If your child uses the full amount great, if not perhaps donate the balance to their teacher so they can use it towards a book for the classroom.
