I was chatting to someone briefly about Bitcoin yesterday and they mentioned, "oh yeah because it is good for money laundering"... To which I replied "you know it is factual that there is a magnitude greater amount of money laundering happening in banks compared to anything in Bitcoin right?"

But honestly, can someone answer me this?

Who the F has money laundering ever hurt anyway? Why do people feel like it is such a clear cut immoral thing to do?

Retardation is a hell of a drug man

Having public ledger supposed to be opposite to "good for money laundering"...

Yeah, but people don't know that... Also lightning and other L2s.

Valid point for Lightning, but I am not sure that it is of any practical usefulness for real laundering - I haven't heard that any cybercrime groups such us North Korean hackers use it in any way.

It means fewer free pedo parties for "them".

It feels like someone somewhere started a rumor that money laundering causes mass inflation or something.

Or maybe it's the whole "they didn't pay their taxes so you gotta pay it".

Because I don't get it otherwise.

Its the taxes part. People are mad that they have to pay taxes while others get out of it, all the while they never seem to question how much they get taxed and what they get out of it (not much).

Except that money laundering is specifically choosing to pay taxes on ill-gotten gains. I think they mean tax evasion when they say money laundering.

I have never met someone who actually spoke out against money laundering. If I'm honest with myself, I can't claim to know why AML and KYC laws are passed. I'd really like to have a word with the members of the legislature responsible for that bullshit. Or anyone who thinks its a good idea.
