if we did bip177+bip176, at $1 million fiat per btc, 1 bitcoin would be 1 cent and 100 bitcoin would be $1. 1 bit would be 100 btc. 1 bit would be $1 fiat.

I’m ok with it.

*ducks*

Nah.

Satoshi deserves the honor to be the lowest common denominator for bitcoin!!

He’s the man. Give it up

I’m ok with bitcoin going to $1M as well…

based.

1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats. That gives Bitcoin eight decimal places of precision…plenty for both micro and macro transactions as adoption grows. We don’t need to invent or rebrand units like “bits” to make Bitcoin easier to understand. Just educate people.

Let the market adjust. People adapt…just like they did to kilobytes, megabytes, and gigabytes. No one needed to rename “bytes” to make tech accessible.

The sats pushback is an emotional response to having made "21 million" far too important. All anyone needs to know is that there are currently 944 Bitcoin per USD, and only 10% more coins can ever be created

No one has any idea how many dollars exist, and no one cares

(I mean, I do, but ... you know what I mean)

It amazes me that bitcoiners who say that everyone can be their own bank by generating their own keys and store their coins on a hardware device are now saying the concept of sats is too difficult for most people. It's ridiculous.

It's not too difficult, it's just unnecessary friction

So we are going to render everything written about bitcoin thus far as obsolete just because of some "unnecessary friction" when it is in fact perfectly simple to understand?

Ooh! Ooh! How about case sensitivity?

1 Bitcoin = 100M bitcoin

1kcal = 1Cal

1000mW = 0.000001MW

Makes total sense!

Trying to copy the dollar for what?

Mainly because humans have been used to that for the current and previous generations. Its the same principle in ux design when building apps. Usually you stick with whats familiar to make it easier to digest. People don’t like learning new paradigms.

Sats are literally not a new paradigm to learn…

If you look at the Steak ‘n Shake receipts people are spending around 30,000 sats (aka 30$ at current btc price). That multiple rule of thumb just gets easier.

People in the east are already used to 4 digit valuations of everything, ie 1000 yen for a burger or 1000 rupees for a drink.

Sats are more intuitive than people think.

I am not actually suggesting bip176+177 is a good idea, it was a thought experiment. I still use bip176 personally because it’s easier to visualize 10,000 bits as $10,000 in the future, so it grounds me in future thinking, but thats just a personal thing.

Yeah I get it. Maybe in the future

Today however Bitcoin needs the marketing of 21 million hard cap for NGU.

Call a spade a spade, NgU is the most important metric for adoption.

It’s the plebs jobs to keep bitcoin and freedom tools growing so we don’t FIATize the bitcoin network, ie no longer permissionless.

and then we remove fluctuations to make it stay that way. Stable coins are less confusing to normies

What?? 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Or just let sats be sats
