if you do this, when you are installing be off network. If you are on network it does some phone home shit and requires an email. But if you are off network it lets you go forward and "finish setup later". At some point it might force you to register, they are getting tighter on it

I can't even upgrade to Windows 11 on my main desktop PC because this fucking ASUS MB doesn't have a TPM apparently. Looks like I'll be going back to Linux soon. I stopped day trading so I don't need Windows to run all my trading platforms anymore.

It's still possible to install Windows with a local-only account. The installer will try very hard to steer you away from doing that and get you to set up a Microsoft account, but you can tell it 'no'.
Apparently now even if you have a key, you can't even login to Windows without a Microsoft account...

Satya needs to make one Windows version(very basic) for free.
Don’t know about buying a license, but just went through Win11 OS setup with a new install of Windows 11. Microsoft has implemented some nasty dark patterns to try and force unsuspecting users to create an account during setup. Had to pull up command prompt and enter “OOBE\BYPASSNRO” , then restart in order to even see the option to proceed without an internet connection to make a local account.
There are guys on Alibaba they sell Microsoft/office accounts with existing accounts for 2-5$.

Can people still buy physical copies?
Yes'ish. You can just download a Windows 10 ISO from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO and use it just fine. Eventually, you will be prompted to 'Activate' with a key, but you can run it for free practically forever. You can get an activation key on Amazon, NewEgg, Ebay, or wherever else you trust if you don't trust that.
Earlier versions of Win10 allowed install without a Microsoft account, but it got more difficult in later versions. I haven't tried much with Win11 installs to know for sure there.
