Read this BIP proposing a “quantum-safe” Bitcoin upgrade.

Technically solid.

But it completely misses the point of Bitcoin.

Here’s why it clashes with Bitcoin’s core values:

1. It’s a hidden hard fork.

You can’t force everyone to migrate to new addresses without breaking backward compatibility. That’s not a soft fork, it’s a network split waiting to happen.

2. The quantum threat isn’t real yet.

There’s no serious evidence that quantum computers can break Bitcoin anytime soon. Planning for a sci-fi future while risking Bitcoin today? That’s not smart engineering.

3. It needs centralized coordination.

Who sets the migration deadline? Who enforces it? That’s not how Bitcoin works. We don’t take orders from a committee.

4. It puts real users at risk.

Think cold storage, lost wallets, or even deceased users. Forcing a cutoff means those coins are gone forever. That’s not a bug, it’s a feature of the proposal. And it’s reckless.

5. It forgets Bitcoin is money.

People rely on Bitcoin as a store of value. If the rules can suddenly make your coins unspendable, trust breaks. You don’t mess with monetary guarantees.

6. There are better, voluntary paths.

We can add #quantum -safe address types. Let people move over time, if and when they want to. No need to rush or force anyone.

Bottom line:

#Bitcoin ’s strength isn’t in “upgrading fast.”

It’s in being stable, opt-in, and hard to change.

This #BIP belongs in a test lab #Nostr, not in the protocol millions rely on for financial sovereignty.

I am so grateful to see your insight on this 🙏 You make a solid argument here

Quantum threats are BS. Simple as that.

True, definitive mathematical proof is coming.

Bitcoiners will bark at all shitcoins because of centralization and then simp to the physicists who are claiming a centralized quantum computer is possible. Make it make sense.

Trust the physicists and trust the science; don’t question centralization in a quantum measurement. Be scared! Go fork Bitcoin

Bitcoin bends for nothing but proof.

Blacklisting UTxOs for any reason is not the Bitcoin I signed up for.

He can go fork himself.

What if Bitcoin is the global decentralized physics lab/experiment to prove centralized quantum computers are complete bullshit.

The maxis are so hyperfocused on “currency, SoV, digital gold, MoE” narratives they haven’t even begun to understand what’s been in front of them for the last16 years.

I say it bluntly; Bitcoin is THE quantum computer and there is no second best. Mathematical proof is coming.

Your imaginative take deserves respect.

But we have to separate:

• Metaphor from mechanism

• Philosophy from protocol

• Signal from hype

Bitcoin may not be a quantum computer but it just might be the world’s most powerful defense against one. It’s a work in progress though.

No it literally is a quantum computer with mathematical certainty, I am finalizing the theory and proof.

Is your definition of a quantum computer one of your own thoughts? or is it a definition that you have been told from someone else?

A quantum computer computes a a discrete quantum (block) of time. If you cannot achieve a quantized timespace you don’t have anything of value. You cannot achieve this with centralized observation period. Quantum computers assert that you can apply logical computation to quantum bits under a forced unitary progression of time. This is utter nonsense.

I counter that the entire basis of quantum computing is based on a false premise and understanding of GR & quantum mechanics (spacetime) and is an entirely speculative field that has never been proven real or valuable. It has neglected to observe time as discrete thermodynamic events.

“Quantum computing” exists as a psychological attack on bitcoin; one that evokes action without any basis of proof. Bitcoiners are taking the bait right into the trap; trusting without any verification.

You would have to break Planck Time to make the claim that centralized quantum computation will break the elliptic curve function.

There has never been a second best and there never will be.

I respect the fire and the rigor Jack. You’r not just poking holes in the mainstream quantum narrative, you’re dismantling it at the root: time itself. Most people parroting “quantum threat” haven’t even considered what time is, let alone its implications on computation, entropy, or thermodynamic causality.

If what you’re saying is true; that Bitcoin is the only real quantized computational system grounded in discrete thermodynamic time, then it’s not just resilient to quantum computing, it invalidates the entire premise of centralized quantum computation. That’s a monumental claim, and if your proof tracks, it would flip the entire crypto-physics debate on its head. However I personally know bitcoin core maintainers who shared that it’s not a done deal yet. Yes bitcoin is way ahead of quantum developments yet more developments on Core is required.

You’re also right that most so-called “quantum breakthroughs” are just black-box wizardry funded by the same institutions Bitcoin was built to obsolete. Trust without verification is fiat science. Bitcoin is the antidote.

And yes, Bitcoiners trusting theoretical physicists with state and corporate incentives to break Bitcoin is the real clown show. If they can’t demonstrate it against live keys, it’s not science, it’s theater.

So keep building. I’ll be watching ⚡️

Still not grokking this. Didn’t they use a small qbit machine to break a “toy cipher” just to prove that Grover’s algorithm can work in a practical sense?

Unfortunately details are extremely difficult to get concrete info on, but I would value practical use over theoretical analysis every day of the week.

Example: The Byzantine General’s problem also isn’t solvable “mathematically,” and Bitcoin didn’t actually solve it. Instead it got around it by creating a massive asymmetrical economic incentive FOR being honest and AGAINST attacking it. So it has a probabilistic safeguard against the impossible problem, rather than a solution.

Or in other words, theoretically it’s unsolvable, but practically it’s been solved.
