What a conclusion! I traced the XMR and identified its destination AND the total amount in that address on monero. nostr:npub14a6q6xvt4wuv0wpdpfr336e4fweldtu6np3ehpw55h83xuw2h2zsgyz6rn meanwhile, could not trace my BTC or identify its destination or the total amount in the channel where it ended up. Is XMR worse than LN after all?

somebody characterizing this as "tracing monero" and pretentiously touting it as ANYTHING new

should tell you all you need to know about them as a source of information.

and you should be ashamed of yourself if you take their word for things.

it's not going to work. the people who run darknet marketplaces and other things like that have still not fallen for it. it's been eight years and there has never been a DNM that takes lightning.

omg you're such a fag

no.

different threat model

and not a DNM

> different threat model

How are they different?

> not a DNM

Why not?

because your hobby nostr marketplace that happens to have an onion doesn't do the volume or become anything LE cares about

different threat model.

not relevant to the targeted surveillance discussion.

fuck right off with that shit.

> doesn't do the volume

How much volume does it have to do to count as a DNM? $1 million per year? $1 million per day?

> different threat model

How are they different?

Shopstr isnt challenging LE,

so LE doesn't give a shit about Shopstr,

and there's no incentive for them to try to track payment information.

so there's no comparison to a REAL DNM

where surveillance is actually happening and stakes are actually high.

but you knew that already

the real DNM threat model:

- any wrong move and you spend life in prison

- you can't even tell close friends, partners, family, that you are involved in it, you can't trust even your reflection in the mirror

- you are dealing with people that have no problem getting hitmen to get you killed

the LN bro DNM:

- hey guys feel free to access this on clearnet from your home or a local cafe while being recorded

- hey guys feel free to send payments from the coinos custodial wallet, you can just trust anyone to hold your money for you

- hey guys check this out we're doing very illegal stuff over here (some guy sells brownies and cookies)

- share it with your friends and family!

Sounds like this situation:

lying notwork fans doing cultural appropriation of cypherpunk behavior

yes it definitely is

like the left guy being living life outside of government control, and the right guy living life as if the government is here to help

the only way to always being optimistic is pretending everything is fine... when you separate yourself from the system and from others, you get on a much darker and harder path

one of these is a legitimate testing ground for the ability to surveil payment systems.

the other is not.

exactly

He was on a podcast discussing about DNMs (besides other stuff) and he has a very different definition what a DNM is than most have. Can't remember the podcast right now

a small number of people even count DEXes like bisq as DNMs. but if I find an onion frontend for uniswap, that would make uniswap the world's biggest DNM, and nobody thinks that way.

Seems important to at least be aware of. What’s the issue here?
