Are there any "green energy" proponents here? While many countries are taking a step back from their zero carbon stances (rightly so, I think), Australia seems to be powering ahead (sorry pun). This concerns me because I don't want to see Australia crash and burn. Maybe I'm missing something and they can make a green energy transition work? #asknostr

I'm a supporter of green energy, but not to the exclusion of other forms of energy production. At least not now. I think we currently need a blend of energy sources to meet our needs, but we should be promoting green energy whenever possible with the goal of using more and more of it over time. That means we currently need nuclear and fossil fuels in addition to green energy. By promoting green energy and the latest generation of nuclear technology, we can hopefully move away from fossil fuels.

Well said.

You mean oil and gas? Or nuclear?

Both are greener than electric.

Electric isn't an energy source. It's an energy transmitter. Electric is generated by fossil fuels, nuclear, and green. So you have to look at your energy company to see the source breakdown, and options to use different source blends.

We've already de-industrialised to the point we are, in economic complexity, sandwiched between Uganda and Burkina Faso.

If we de-industrialise any further, we'll have load shedding, and Mrs Middleclass won't be able to watch Love Island on her 85" TV (paid for by madly printing debt and visas).

And that would be terrible.

I support green energy if it is evidence-based, and won't kill more (directly or through poverty) than other options.

You're talking about Australia?

I'm afraid so...

Don't worry, I don't think labour will be in power much longer. They are already backpedaling on some of their policies such as the misinformation bill 🤡

Thank goodness.

Unfortunately, Liberal and National love "accreditation", "approval" and "permitting process" as much or more than Labor does. (Nationals definitely more.)

Its thanks to the last Liberal federal govt that it is unlawful for a me to own a manual on my hybrid car's electrical system. Only an "accredited repairer" of hybrids can possess such dangerous secrets that man Was Not Meant To Know. We are the only country with this restriction, which is why the manuals are available online as long as you don't use an AU ip address.

The Devil can take all our major parties...

Check out the Libertarian Party. I think they'll get quite a few votes next election

Yup. Liberal Democrats were administratively de-registered federally, but they're good too. As is Reason, if anyone wants a libertarian party from the other side of the culture wars.

All three are getting my preferences above any major party. Probably Shooters, Fishers and Farmers, too.

The problem I am having with this, is that countries are portrayed as victims, when, in fact, everyone knew (or could have known) what should be done 40-50 years ago. Plenty of time to change slow and comfortable, we just refused to act. So now you're saying we should take it slowly? I think that ship has sailed. A train does not wait for passengers who are to slow, they'll just have to run. So let's crash, burn and rebuilt.
