Question for #asknostr - what happens if users are reported? I noticed a “report user” option on Primal. Do the client devs get that report and if so what’s the process there?

Do clients provide some level of content moderation or is it mostly up to the user to choose what and who they see?

On TikTok there are a lot of repliers who seem concerned about trolls or other villains. As a veteran of old-Twitter, I’m not very concerned, myself, haha, but I am curious how this all shakes out in #nostr.

The Android app Amethyst app will show you all the reports that people filed on you. That's all I know. It's hilarous

Bwahahaha I actually love that idea.

Do you have any yet on yourself?

I don’t know 😅 but now I want to see

On my end, you have 0 reports.

You were not racist/sexist/homophobic/antisemetic enough yet

nostrudel.ninja does as well.

If you install the Alby extension and go there on desktop, you can log in with it.

This. Nostr is a cruel mistress.

Basically nothing. Just use your mute button

I think reports are an event kind that get sent to relays like any other event. The relay operators can review the reports and decide to ban the user they're directed at.

I think Nostr is a place for grown ups... and grown ups need to pull their socks up and understand the world and the people in it, trying to come to terms with those different people.

That being said... blocking specific posters is also an option. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Depends on the clients and relays you use. For the most part, i don’t think they currently do anything. There isn’t great tooling for relays to review the reports yet, so I think most relays just ignore them.

Amethyst will hide anything that in tagged #NSFW or if other people you follow have posted a report.

i think they go to nostr jail

Relays/clients can utilize or ignore the reports if they wish. I've been extremely active on Nostr for over a year now and the mute and web of trust tools that already exist are more than ample for keeping unwanted users and content out of my feed/replies/notifications. It's been a non-issue for me.

Helps block the bots and porn

nostr.mom relay takes that into account (if an account is reported a lot it blocks the account).

some clients have mute functionality. if an account is muted by you, you should not see it. some relays take that data into account as well. if an account is muted a lot it is blocked.

If it’s reporting the note itself and it contains media hosted by nostr:npub1nxy4qpqnld6kmpphjykvx2lqwvxmuxluddwjamm4nc29ds3elyzsm5avr7 it’ll show up on our admin image approve page, only a couple nostriches including myself volunteered to do this work. If its some really sick n twisted stuff (you can imagine I don’t wanna say it) then we moderate n remove, if its something that just pissed someone off n doesn’t actually violate any rules then it remains.

also if it’s nsfw then I click “adult” n it becomes tagged as nsfw content which clients can then choose how to display that to their users.
