There are degrees everywhere. I'm not saying that I support the right to repair laws, all laws have horrible unintended consequences. I am saying that the companies who sued to fight right to repair laws sent a message about how they feel about their customers. That message was fuck the customer.
I'm sending a message back and my message is fuck you too. I'll mow my yard with a pair of scissors before I buy a John Deere tractor. If apple becomes the only cell phone manufacturer you'll need to get a ham radio license if you want to reach me.
Android isn't perfect but I run GrapheneOS not the stock OS and I sideload instead of using the app store. As a rule, I use the most free and repairable product available when I needed to make the purchase. It isn't perfect every time but if enough of us sent that message they may start to get the hint and offer even more free options.
The truth is, I'm not even mad at the manufacturers. They are businesses trying to maximize profit. As long as consumers buy disposable junk that is most profitable. The problem is the consumers who don't demand repairability when they purchase. So I'm more mad at my neighbor with a John Deere mower than the company.
