How far back can you go with your own ancestry?
I don’t mean what a website can tell you when you send them spit.
Proven documents and recorded family history.
Literally 3 generations... Such a shame that none of my forefathers chose to record anything

I can go about 4, but poor family, just too many kids and to many stories lost to the wars.
That seems to be about right. Why is that? Writing and recording history goes back thousands of years. Stories about a census by Caesar etc.
