If you’re new to #nostr the best advice I can give you is to say hello, tag it with #introductions , and FOLLOW LOTS OF PEOPLE. Like literally follow everyone you can at first. You can curate that layer on once you figure out who you don’t want to keep following. But following A LOT of people is the number 1 way you’ll find interesting content and other people. People are the algorithm here. Follow them. Lots of them.

Cela peut très très un danger pour la stabilité de l'individu

Hashtags work well for now. Some people abuse them by including them in notes that aren’t related to the hashtag, but it’s not a rampant issue for now. I imagine that will change with time though. It became a huge problem on Instagram back in the day.

That's how I got started.
I followed just about everyone, until the point it felt like I was in a giant stadium. Then I trimmed the following list until I got interesting content without being overwhelmed.
Yes 🙌 I did the same. Got to over a thousand follows and then went through and trimmed out the inactive accounts and those that I wasn’t vibing with. Went through that process a few times over the last year.
I started by looking at profiles/notes of people who were followed by or were following the 1-2 people I knew on Nostr. My list of quality Nostr frens grew quickly 🫂
I fear we will get flooded by bots if most people follow this advice. I went through quite some effort to check each follow for track record and probably being an actual human or at least cats 😉 and wish others would do so, too.
True it doesn’t hurt to peek at their feed first. My main point is don’t be stingy with follows, especially if you ask for recommendations of who to follow and then get several. I see the same pattern over and over. Ask for recommendations, get dozens, ignore most of them, follow the twitter influencers instead. While there is some overlap, NOStr is its own place and it’s best to follow the people who are active here if you want to see activity in your feed 😂
My point is that the corndalorian impersonator or the LLM bot will be way more effective at reacting to all noobs than you and me, so noobs will end up following fake accounts this way. The timeline can be a copy of another timeline - even back-dated and the noob would have no way of knowing.
the second best advice after you do his advice is UNFOLLOW lots of people that you followed.
after a few days, no doubt you'll find some of those follows will be garbage or you thought was good at the time but after a while you realize they don't really post anything of value to you and your feed is now an overwhelming mess.
unfollow them and don't feel bad about it. you're curating your feed so that this place can be enjoyable and worth your time.
