I was thinking about #nostr and stumbled upen the question that Why did we get #nostr now and not before 5 years ago or 10 years ago? What was the innovation that was stopping #nostr protocol to be developed, was it some cryptography thing or development in computer science or any other protocol?

It was probably the de-platforming trend on mainstream social media, that woke people up to the necessity of such a protocol, rather than technological drivers

No. Nothing. But I had the basic Nostr idea in 2019. Why didn't you start supporting it back then?

It’s simple. There needs to be a catalyst for any significant change even if all of the ingredients are prepped. For bitcoin it was the Great Recession. For Nostr it was Twitter going to shit.

Can’t cook without heat.

I don't think this is true. I think these things are a bunch of random coincidences that we assign narratives to after the fact.

it not just Twitter - it was just the last big example.

but in 2010, who would complain about YT or orkut? It was wild, no censorship. Google still was "don't be evil".

even in dictatorships, pp could VPN to access one centralized service, safely.

no cancel culture. no debanking. data was being used for advertising, so what?

why would pp feel the need of a descentralized service, which will be slower and/or limited at least for some time if not always?

I didn’t know about you back then. Thanks for lifting the Humanity ❤️
