As a member of the OpenSats Nostr committee I must say nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx rarely says anything about the Nostr grant proposals and he doesn't vote on them either. As far as I know the Nostr grant approvals and disapprovals have been following what the Nostr committee decides. Maybe he is manipulating us all from a distance or maybe he is flipping the decisions at an upper layer, but I didn't notice.
Discussion
An entity moving disproportionate amounts of money will inevitably have market-skewing effects.
I know you guys are trying very hard to avoid this, but it's an economic effect you can mitigate, but not escape.
That's why normalization of paying for services is so essential. It's a cultural change that adds another major payer class (npubs) and increases economic balance in the system.
And takes the focus off of one particular person.
Agree.
Even with best intentions Odel whether true or not is the face of Opensats, which is the #1 money injector in nostr (unless there are stealth nostr VC investment in tens of millions).
There will be scrutiny.
Needs to be more decentralized.
This is encouraging to hear. He places himself in a precarious situation by being involved with both OpenSats and Ten31 which serve the same market space, obviously in different purposes, but with purposes which create at the very least the appearance of blurred lines. Everyone has seen enough BS in our respective lines of work to know that conflicts of interest exist even when we may insist they don't. He invites every ounce of criticism by remaining active in leadership over both of these entities.
Bitcoin and Nostr, although they seem like a large enough group (devs and contributors) is still relatively minuscule in the grand scheme of things (software industry). I’m not disagreeing with anyone here, but simply pointing out that as a result of how small Bitcoin and Nostr still are, it is expected that people and projects will overlap (like a small town where the sheriff os also the town dentist, lol). In any case, people get too fucking triggered too fucking fast. Calm down, the truth always reveals itself. Embrace low time preference, and keep shipping, or shitting, the choice is yours. 🧡🧡
Anyone talking about Odell’s character instead of understanding how centralized structures and committees inevitably lead to compromise, should go stand out in the yard and repeatedly hit their face against a tree 🌴
Instead of a small committee why not build a big committee including all who donated to OpenSats and have some contribution to the Nostr ecosystem?
Include all folks who donated ( or donated certain amounts )
- Create a public poll or something similar to take votes and opinions from folks who care about OpenSats and Nostr projects at the same time.
It's just an idea, we can find better with some research.
