This might be totally against the nostr ethos but I feel like many people (non technical folks) need a layer equivalent to a bitcoin exchange. Somewhere that they can log in and use wth a username and password before they are ready to self custody their keys.
People crave the familiar.
from experience trying to onboard...
- nsec/npub, it scares people. it's psychological. long strings of text and numbers, overwhelms them. the tech savvy will laugh, but it's true.
- maybe, there's a way to make it more human readable. npub - nostr address. nsec, a password. that's what they are, but something that makes it familiar to the UX.
I genuinely cannot comprehend why any client even mentions the word nsec/npub or shows you yours when onboarding. The white noise app is perfect for this. Just generate it automatically and throw it in the settings somewhere. Have a login button in the corner somewhere for those with a nostr already.
