Well I think the conflict is interesting

I’ve been to ES multiple times now and I think it’s clear and obvious (at least from my interactions) that Bukele has been a net positive for everyday El Salvadorians. I think this is clear from his approval ratings

But it’s also clear he’s taken some extreme measures to do it so quickly. But the people seem to love it as the safety within the country is almost unrecognizable to even a couple years ago

So I don’t think it’s as black and white from a human rights perspective as it may seem from the article (especially because we are only hearing one side of the story here)

As far as El Faro goes, they were founded and are fun by two wealthy establishment figures from the AREN party whose 25-year old newspaper business has lost relevancy with Salvadorans.

El Faro is no different from partisan news outlets in America funded by billionaires with a political and economic agenda. An "independent" paper it is not.

They're making a business decision, not getting kicked out of the country or living 'in exile' which is a *rich* way to describe the fact that Salvadorans don't value what El Faro sells.

It's as simple as that.

There is nothing good about media fleeing a country

Bitcoin adoption good, civil liberties crackdown bad…

They're not being persecuted, and they're not going to stop reporting on El Salvador.

As they said in the press release, they are choosing to move their legal and administrative functions to Costa Rica.

These are not civil liberties crack downs, these are business decisions.

How dumb do you think we are?

Seriously…

I don't know who "we" is, but whoever is dumb enough to believe El Faro is "independent media" is pretty dumb.

More #[4] on Nostr for those of us who left Twitter please 🙏

We are talking about Canada right ? 😅

Alex, where have they said they are fleeing? It seems you are putting your own twist on this story the way NYT does with subjects they are opposed to. One Salvadoran here says they are making a business decsion by moving, you say they are fleeing? Who is right?

Interesting, are you Salvadorian?

Yes.

Cool. What are you thoughts on Nayib so far?

My thoughts on the evolution of the country are best summarized here. I invite you to watch:

Interesting talk, it didn't really address bukele but that's okay.

Have you repatriated to El Salvador, or do you plan to ?

I'm in the process of getting my kids their Salvadoran DUIs and passports. We've purchased property and plan on transitioning our lives down to El Salvador over time.
