Most ideas are just a twist on a recognised formula. How much research do you do into your ideas to avoid repetition? Or do you just not care how unoriginal you are?

When I first successfully finished a novel for NaNoWriMo I was so proud and edited it many times thinking I'd try to publish... Until I saw an old TV show called Sliders that was literally point for point my novel even down to the main character names. I must have watched it as a little kid and forgotten it completely and thought I was original ðŸ˜
