I'm running a public relay on my own dime but I'm starting to question the point of it. For not much more cost I could be doing what you're doing and offer another image hosting service so you're not carrying the entire weight of the Nostrverse on your shoulders.
Try charging for the relay, annually, make it a premium service?

Might go to a paid relay. Also want to implement a spam filter using nostr.band API. The other option I thought about was just whitelisting all of the npubs that I follow, so it's like a 'friends' relay. I could run that on a smaller VPS. Right now I'm basically donating cloud computing resources to spammers. 🤣
At least try to charge. People actually like paying for relays for less spam and premium status. Yeah, anything additional, or ‘cool’ you can do, even better.
In the meantime learn how to build an uploader on a lazy weekend!
