It only works if the person who posted the note currently has a lightning address set on their Nostr profile. This is not a custodial service.

Scenario: nostr:npub1h8gzew8am6cezuq7cpjgudldra40hgnruqrqlsrqnxnzs5wjtczqztps02 #v4v live show
Display lightning address and QR code for the live stream in the venue. Then people can easily zap the naddr for the live stream. Their comments show up in the chat.
Would have been so much easier to tip the artists at the nostr:npub1yfg0d955c2jrj2080ew7pa4xrtj7x7s7umt28wh0zurwmxgpyj9shwv6vg live show with this. The way I had to do it was open the live stream on my phone, click the zap button, pick a preset amount and write a comment, click the button, and then pop into a lightning wallet and confirm payment. With this I would have just had to open my lightning wallet, scan the QR code, type any amount I want, write a comment and confirm.
The difference is no nostr client is needed to generate the invoice. Remember when Apple made Damus remove the zap button from notes? Now we don’t need a zap button for notes cause every note has a lightning address.
There was no way for people who were not on Nostr to zap the event. That’s probably why we got our butt kicked by the boosters.
