W00t!

Turns out my old Android tablet (that I never use) can run Linux (PostmarketOS).

There are a few phones I already disposed of that could have, too :(

Probably more efficient, powerful and reliable than a Raspberry Pi for running a server; just not as hardware-hackable.

I don't actually need another server just now, so maybe I should compile XMRig on it and mine some maxi tears...?

xmrig on a fone hardware... does it really pay off?

If the opportunity cost for the hardware is zero, and I have solar panels, then its just a matter of my time.

That would be a couple of minutes of my actual attention, since I've built XMRig before.

Actual answer: IDK, but might be amusing!

Well with unused hardware and solar panels it might pay off, even if it s just some sats per day.

If you have to pay electricity, usually it doesnt pay off, depends where you live though.

🧡👍

100%.

I live in AU. We have some way to go before our electricity price reaches parity with the EUs, but we'll get there... :/

Blessed when you have an off grid solution💪👍

unfortunately in Florida you need hurricane insurance and they will not insure a roof with solar panels because it could have been structurally compromised.

and there isn't as much space in Florida as in Australia so i can't just use a ground array.

but solar roof tiles are improving. i expect by the time roof needs replacing the tech will be hurricane proof to the point where insurance will cover it.

What are your thoughts on self-insuring?

too broke for that

I run several small self hosted servers for my local network using termux on an android tablet. Depending the case, you may not even need postmarketOs to do that
