Oof this #meshtastic rabbit hole is deep. I've already bought a second kit, built it, and am now 3D printing a case for it. I'm also thinking about buying maybe 2 more and putting them up at family member's houses to build out the network a bit here 😬

But what I really want is to be able to talk to nostr:nprofile1qqsptssu6n4pvsjxth30na0llrnpa4u8x52cv4jtke9j5uvm77ldvvspzdmhxue69uhhwmm59e6hg7r09ehkuef00remkh and nostr:nprofile1qqs2wguqtndxwfg3j8y8sm6d5k8hjlnfwavzxqf4fw5wjx7tqdpde8qpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqpz4mhxue69uhhxet5dqhxummnw3erztnrdakszxrhwden5te0d4hk7mnzda5jumn0wd68yvfwvdhk6ecynlx 😩 We need to get these mountain nodes up.

Which device should I start with homies?

I am just a noob beginner. I have the Rak Wireless Wisblock (RAK4631) (pre-built) and I built one myself with a Heltec V3 kit and parts. From what I've read, the RAK4631 is better with battery life. I believe I'm seeing that too.

You don't really half-ass anything, do you? Lol 👍

I get obsessed easily 😅

I can absolutely relate. I'm the king of overboard.

As my late friend Joel used to say, go big or go home.

You had a wise friend!

attention is warm; can be hot

Get one of those that have built in keyboards. That’s my next one.

I've seen those. The ones that look like a BlackBerry?

The T-Deck worksfine and the FancyUI is nice but still early alpha. I will add an external antenna. The built-in antenna gives rather poor results.

you should try out Kaonic 1s from Bee Chat!

It's also leapfrogging meshtastic in performance.

While meshtastic is good for texting, it cannot reliably handle data intensive applications. In fact, meshtastic was design on LoRa, which was designed for IoT applications like agriculteral temperature sensing, it was never designed for offgrid communication.

We designed Kaonic from the ground up utilising similar technology to 4G (MIMO, OFDM, and TDD) but at a lower frequency, allowing much longer range and mesh networking.

Think of Meshtastic like a 90s computer. Kaonic is next-gen, enabling modern applications like live audio/video connections over radio

Is it open source?

Wait until you start setting up external antenna on your roof. Probably early next week!

Every now and then someone says something about this that intrigues me, and then I look it up and find it too suspicious to spend much time on.

meshtastic.org seems to use JavaScript for absolutely no reason...

Fully intend to pop them up all over our hunting territory! It’s easy to get your GPS coordinates these days, and meshtastic is a way to transmit your location without cel service and without subscribing to sat phone.

Was just staring at a listing like but for what ...think imma make the jump anyways 😂

We just went down the rabbit hole not long ago if you'd like some Meshtastic discussion to listen to: https://linuxunplugged.com/584

Perfect! Thank you.

Have a Lillygo T-Deck on order... 😃

I'm getting closer to going down that rabbit hole myself.

Yo! Deep indeed, brother. I got another one (unassembled) from RakWireless and now it seems I need to pick up a soldering pen. Also been eyeing the t-echo, cool af 🤙

I’m on the lookout for a case for my basic LilyGo t-beam, but having some trouble finding a USA vendor. Any recs? Alternately… How would you feel about a swap of magic internet money in exchange for a sexy case?

GM. I can print one if I can find the pattern. Let me look.
