Lots of clients is good, but for me I'm an Amethyst loyalist and fully siloed into it. I don't client hop anymore.
This is the magic of Nostr. The feeling when you use Damus for months and then install and open Primal… and then everything is there, exactly the same… and then you go back to Damus and everything still works the same…

Follow the Satoshi way: Define the incentives, support the early network, then step back and let the free market reign.
nobody wants to hand out their payment details, especially to an unknown server on a little used network.
Payment details? Just zap a 1000 sat invoice every once in a while. We need to breakdown basic cost per zap for running nodes and it will probably be less than 0.1 sat per post, 1sat/note/month for note durability and further charges for image upload. A few market can develop and clients can dynamically choose relays based on fees and reach to followers. None of this will be expensive but building the incentives right will create innovation on the infrastructure side not just the UI/client.

Yea I’m currently cycling between damus, primal, and nostur to see what UX/UI I like the most. But maybe it is actually best to continue to cycle between 🤔 That way you are constantly exposed to new features and formats and don’t get too used to or tied to one thing. If you aren’t constantly looking to improve or FIND improvements, you either fall behind or become too “comfortable”
Unfortunatelly, on iPhone 7 I’m currently stuck with previous version of nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955, as everything else requires iOS 16+.

How does freedom lose if one client out competes the rest in NOSTR?
Wouldn't that mean that they're following the rules of the NOSTR protocol while also providing the best value and services to users?
The fact that users have the ability to move their data to other clients should be incentive enough to keep dominant clients like these in line, so I don't see how diversity, in this case, would promote more freedom.
Even the largest monopolies fall, but we should never be privilege this one to reduce competition and not fall into the loss of the incentive to continue making great Nostr 🫡
but how can we create a real economy where both clients and relays can earn enough... how do we move from "free" social media (can we?)
what about in-client adverts or paid subscriptions (to remove adverts) where client shares income with a list of trustworthy relays?

The dominant client is the one with the most freedom
If nostr isnt free, open , easy to use and NOT FOR PROFIT or self hosted then it isn't really offering anything Elon Musk isn't. There were many twitter alternatives that failed because nobody was on there. Nostr still has that latter problem but being open, free and censorship free might swing it. Paid relays remove any real world advantage.
One client will ALWAYS dominate. That applies to almost all competing software ever made.
