Alright, I’m going to jump on this Audible Book train.

I’ve always been a tangible book guy but… I’m giving it a whirl.

Any pros and cons out there?

Eyes won’t hurt. It’s great.

I listen to a shit ton of podcasts so I can certainly absorb verbal form.

I also think listening to books I’ve already read is an added bonus for refreshing.

I dunno. I’ve been so reluctant but with the baby and dark rooms, it’s a perfect fit.

It’s a game changer

Low volume lullabies too

I remember those days…only cons I’ve felt is having physical copy for shelves/feels like a bit of cheat code…but a great way to give yourself information

I’ve listened to hundreds of books. Great way to get new info. Not great for complex topics that require a lot of thought.

Do you read fiction or non-fiction?

Fiction with figurative language may not be as deeply appreciated through an audio format.

I don’t dive deep into fiction honestly. I save those for movies.

I was the same I used to be religious and only read/listen to nonfiction because I would think it was a waste of time otherwise, until I tried The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson

Listen to Atlas Shrugged, ideally more than once. Audio is great, book is life changing.

Up the speed, you will get used to it and consume more info more quickly.

Don’t do books with charts and images needed to make the book work.

There’s some good books included in the library, The Law by Bastiat and The Art of War for example.

Worth giving it a go. I’ve been able to consume more good content using audiobooks than if I had to read everything in physical format.

Reckon it hits different. Reading for me is all in my head, it's just the written words and my brain interpreting and absorbing. An audible has the narrators voice which adds another emotional layer. Also with reading the eyes are concentrating on the text, not being distracted. With audio the eyes can wander and I've found I have lingering image links of my surroundings with the book I've listened to. The books that I've read tend to sit more clear and deep in my mind while audio books are more cluttered, if that makes sense.

Just paid for the month. Going to give it a shot. And yes, this makes sense. Simple fact, we all learn differently. Something our modern classrooms disregard.

True, I'm easily distracted and not very good at multi tasking. Guess it also depends on the kind of book. Deep literature, for me, is all about that concentration and I doubt I would sit in a chair, staring at the wall in full absorption if it were the audio. Podcasts and more info type books, though, I can audio all day.

I’ve only done a few, but I feel most orators do a great job at setting the scenes and making it easy to follow without intently listening for every detail by adding voice inflections and subtle queues like that. I enjoy it when I can do it, but always prefer a physical book or short podcast for short time allowances.

Great if you exercise, can exercise the body and brain in one go, efficient use of time. Just finished 1984 , hadnt read it for ages

Pros: I can listen to a book while cooking/exercising/walking

Cons: academic material is hard to follow. Definitely need a book for that.
