anyways tl;dr

• wen native app for a nostr reddit

• tired of the twitter-like content format, need new mediums

• lack of new people -> lack of new refresh new takes -> pushes groupthink

The community NIP is weak. I tried starting a community and it was just not feasible. Reddit just works. When nostr can just work, we'll see a reddit-like client.

what were the last things built around it?

zappdit, flycat and satellite.earth i suppose?

and what makes it weak from your pov

I think I was trying it on sattelite.earth.

I don't remember exactly the issues, but moderation is not good and something about notes getting mixed with other kinds. Would have to try again to identify that issue but it was an instant red light for me.

yeah, recall a similar experience and feelings from my end

would be an interesting bounty to have out there, if there's already not one in existence

tldr; people who have not ran or tried running a community saying it's a feature not a bug...

can we stop saying "feature not a bug" without objectively considering alternatives

It's stupid really. You are taking the choice out of person's hands. So what, I am supposed to automatically broadcast everything I post in other communities, all the music I listen to, the streams I am watching? Have a share button... sure, but not automatically broadcast it.

I can't control what a client displays, but I don't want to see random non-community replies in my community. Nor would I want to spam my followers with content not intended for them because they don't share those interests.

writes a private email

it suddenly gets broadcasted to your public facebook feed

"feature not a bug, ser"

Imo it should stay kind 1s but clients should differentiate between community posts and normal notes and not show the former.

that doesn't solve the problem of broadcasting content to followers who may not care about that content

Hm yeah

What makes communities special is that a group of people share the same interest and you feel a sort of a bond there. You can talk about things and people get it, unlike the general population. Besides, it can be weird stuff that most people won't relate to. I think it's really important that people have to join communities to participate in them, even if it's something as trivial as clicking a join button. Otherwise it's not really a community and you're broadcasting your random niche interests to everyone.

if only my unga bunga brain could lay it out as nicely

beautifully put

wth is unga bunga lol

agree with this so much

This is still better than the alternative (Zuck or MuX)

depends on the aspect

i've been wanting a proper long form forum client... idk i look at these habla and shipyard but it isn't doing it for me, i want native too
