Trying to get to Fort Lauderdale for #MiningDisrupt. Routed through Montreal to save time. Mistake.
At check-in:
“Where’s your ETA?”
Me: “What’s an ETA?”
Apparently Canada wants a transit visa even if I’m not entering.
Apply online. “15 minutes” they say. It never shows. Flight cancelled.
Call my agent in Lebanon. She finds me a #Delta flight leaving in 50 minutes. Canadian desk says I won’t make it.
I ignore her.
Sprint to Delta. Supervisor stops me. not to check my passport.
“What do you do?”
I say: “Bitcoin.”
He smirks: “You’re good. Enjoy your trip bro.”
Checked in 120sec before cutoff. Staff claps. As if I landed a plane myself.
Security: chaos.
Boarding. Random security check. Of course. Not blue-eyed Kyle behind me. Me.
When searching for “electronics”, I noticed: I forgot my AirPods in one of the security Xtray trays. Super Nintendo case.
I inform a Delta lady at the boarding and board anyway. Doors about to close.
Then, after like 20min in my seat; the Delta staffer appears, drenched in sweat, holding up the case. “Are these yours?” 🙃
So today I:
– Got wrecked by bureaucracy
– Rescued by a #Bitcoin nod
– Profiled at the gate
– Reunited with my gear
– And still made the flight
The system tried. It failed.
I didn’t.
