I worry about mining pool centralization. The mining industry has grown to an almost incomprehensible scale, and I don't have a perfect solution for this issue.

However, I know for sure that education is essential for any solution. The BitAxe is the perfect device for that purpose.

It looks cool, is affordable, and is a 'real' miner. When people plug in their BitAxe, they immediately understand how tiny their share of the network is.

That's why I decided to sell the BitAxe to my community. It's not about making a profit (given the volatility, I barely break even), but about giving people the chance to learn about mining.

We sold 355 BitAxes in a week.

Next, we're setting up our own mining pool. The ultimate goal is to mine a block, but the chances are negligible, even with 355 BitAxes.

Anyway, it's a very fun project. I'll keep you posted.

I agree that centralization is a risk.

I’m all for mining…just keep getting shit down by the Mrs. 😕

Here’s what I’d love help with.

How to use Bitaxe (or other hobby miner) via solar power.

I live in Florida so I could put it on a poll or other movable small solar setup…

But honestly not sure where go start with “learning solar to power a miner” type thing.

And as a former IT Director I know there is “dirty power” sources and not sure if solar fits that and needs a filter etc

And of course would be ideal to have a battery that the bitaxe runs from, and the solar charges the battery

Sort of like a “miner in a backpack” type setup.

I could travel with it etc
