Well. Dr. Hax is not impressed. nostr.cooking blocks Tor users so hard the web server just doesn't respond. I expected better from a site with "nostr" in the domain. For shame.

nostr:npub15u3cqhx6vuj3rywg0ph5mfv009lxja6cyvqn2jagaydukq6zmjwqex05rq Is this a host issue or something specifically set up on the server? If its the former may consider moving?

We have this hosted through Vercel, and this is the first Iโ€™ve encountered this issue. Appreciate you bringing this to our attention nostr:npub16v82nr4xt62nlydtj0mtxr49r6enc5r0sl2f7cq2zwdw7q92j5gs8meqha , will look into this asap. ๐Ÿ™

Are others able to reproduce my results? I don't want to sound the alarm for nothing.

I did verify that I could load other sites in that same TorBrowser session, and it's unlikely an exit node would specifically block nostr.cooking, but it'd be good to have a sanity check.

im unable to access any of the following with Tor browser, but can access just fine over VPN

https://zap.cooking

https://nostr.cooking

https://onboardstr.vercel.app

https://vercel.com

So Tor + VPN works, but Tor doesnโ€™t? ๐Ÿค”

Tor : fails

VPN -> Tor : fails

VPN : ok

Clear : ok

Ahhh got it. Thanks for the feedback! Exploring options for a different host. Any recommendations?

Maybe a Digital Ocean droplet? ($4/month. Ive never used DO so cant attest to it or Tor support)

FWIW, Corny Chat is hosted on Contabo VPS for about $7/month prepaid annually

You may consider 1984.hosting for better privacy

UPDATE: zap.cooking now supports Tor ๐Ÿค™

Can confirm that as long as I get Cloudflare's permission, I can get to zap.cooking now (over Tor).

Unfortunately, I have some seed words that I'd like to log in with, but the site only accepts nsec, which I do not have and can't find a tool to generate it for me on a mobile phone.

I have been recommending https://nostrtool.com for the conversion. Will look at options to build into the site

This is all very new and we are learning and exploring. Appreciate your feedback ๐Ÿ’œ

That worked. I was able to gey my nsec, log in, update a recipe and publish it. So I know I am really logged in as the same user.

Thanks for giving some devops time to privacy advocates like me. You're making the internet a nicer place, one step at a time. โค๏ธ
