Yeah true. I agree. I think it likely increases across the board too. So maybe not peak, as in the tippy tippy top of all time, but i think the religion would have to be at the height of its powers throughout time.

Its so pervasive and ubiquitous that for most people it is completely invisible

So true. So ingrained in to peoples expectations of reality that a world without it seems totally impossible.

If you are measuring it that way then I think we may have passed the top. I think recently as the overreach has become bigger and more prevasive a greater number of people are starting to imagine a world without without the micromanagement of the state.
