The lie that was told and everyone believed without a fight is that when you purchase something from a store based in another state, complete the sale there, and then send the product to yourself that it somehow means you bought something from your home state. Completely insane. Nothing about the sale is conducted in the buyer's remote state.
The internet broke sales tax. It might be slightly better if the sale was counted on the seller's state, but then you would be forced to pay tax to a state where you may never have even been.
It doesn't matter. The commerce is being conducted where the business operates. When it comes to digital, lawmakers like to imagine false realities if it gives them power.
