Why huge assholes thing?
Discussion
Bruh they are borderline psychos. There's a long history
And they build this amazing tech? I must have missed the story completely. Bottom line is that this is a dangerous attack on privacy and setting up a precedent shouldn't be an option.
They roll shit code and make flawed architectural decisions (leading to all the current speculation that their users could be doxxed), and instead of being serious people, they engage in social media bullying campaigns to silence their critics. They've been so effective at it, that they have Dunning-Krugered and Stockholmed their users into defending them at the MERE SUGGESTION they are doxxing themselves by using Samourai wallet.
Fucking 90% of their users now might have their UTXO ass hanging out the window for the feds to pinch, and these dumb fucks still refuse to admit MAYBE Scamourai was bad for the ecosystem.
I personally never beefed with them. But they have a long history of being abrasive and there was some doxxing and other bullshit that happened.
They put off serious CalyxOS vibes
What’s wrong with CalyxOS now?
They are like Samourai to Wasabi's GrapheneOS. Mostly just highly sus sniping and trolling instead of being productively competitive.
I haven’t read through your notes, in case you’ve already covered this, but you seem to be holding Wasabi in a very favorable light. Are you not concerned that Wasabi is expressly sharing data with Chainalysis and actively censoring addresses?
I don't hold Wasabi in a favorable light. This is a rhetorical redirection technique used by Samourai shills to distract away from the shit product they simp for.
Oh, I’m sorry. Did you not just say that Wasabi was better than Samourai in the same way that Graphene was better than Calyx?
1. I’m not a samourai shill
2. this isn’t a misdirection/distraction
3. I’m not simping
Settle the F down, Snowflake.
Samourai acting like crime bosses beefing over turf doesn't automatically legitimize the people they have beef with. It merely should draw the attention of any skeptical individual who understands that highly anti-social behavior is an indication they might not be acting in anyone's best interest, aave their own. Therefore, caution should be exercised when trusting them with, oh say, your utxo set. Because they might intentionally (through self-preservation) or inadvertently (through insouscient disregard amd overconfidence in their own skills) doxx you.
Agreed. This is a fair point. But it still seems like you’re giving Wasabi a pass for cooperating with Chainalysis and censoring addresses.
Anyways, the OP from nostr:npub1rtlqca8r6auyaw5n5h3l5422dm4sry5dzfee4696fqe8s6qgudks7djtfs was simply noting that while acknowledging Samourai’s mostly dick-ish behavior, it hasn’t stopped the community from supporting them against these charges brought by the government.
They weren't assholes, they were OG maxis in the sense that they were absolutely uncompromising in everything they tried to do, and they were very vocal about that fact - For better or wose.
That is, until they turned to Monero for some extra help on the privacy front becausee Bitcoin wasn't moving as fast they'd like/
Most people however, seem to confuse lack of compromise (and absolute maximalism, especially at a time when maximalism wasn't a popular term) with arrogance.
Personally, I find it sad and absolutely disrespectful to call them assholes when 10 years later their now dead-in-the-water wallet seems to be the ONLY wallet in the Bitcoin ecosystem to apply certain privacy techniques you just don't see anywhere else. That's the real sad part. It's a huge loss for Bitcoin in general.
Ima be honest. It is all so confusing. Appreciate your opinion. So many people are obviously pushing their own agendas. Big part of bitcoin community wasn't vocal about privacy at all and instead focused on price pumping which means nothing if the network becomes crippled to death with threats and regulations. Whenever I heard people like saylor speaking about the regulatory work that has to be done I was wondering how far they think it should be taken? To extend where btc becomes cbdc? Fiat system won't allow a parallel economy flourishing on btc network. May be I don't see far enough along the game theory trajectory though.
I don't think any of us can truly see far enough to understand where things will end up - But truth of the matter is this is the next best time to take action and help steer things in the direction we want - Through consensus we overcome the negatives of personal agendas.
I'm looking for a revival of the Bitcoin privacy advocacy and cypherpunk values in the coming months and years.
Having followed the Samourai devs for years, they knew this was going to happen - And I for one am looking forward to the fight they're going to put up because they won't go down easy. Their fight may be a catalyst for privacy-minded individuals to 'hoist the colors.'
Samourai devs also picked a lot of fights with a lot of other developers when they saw non-privacy implementations of code in privacy-focused services - Their biggest fight was probably with Wasabi Wallet. Years later and we now know Wasabi censors transactions and via chain analysis users of their mixing service have been deanonimised. Yet Samourai get insulted left right and center because of their abrasiveness... Divisive at a communtiy level, but actions must speak louder.
