The move, which will eventually let Zebedee’s users seamlessly leave the ZBD app to any of the dozens of applications now available on Nostr, might seem counterintuitive in the winner-take-all world of traditional social media. But unlike traditional social networks that control their users’ identities, the integration with the open-source Nostr protocol could also supercharge adoption by letting any of the 18 million registered Nostr users join the app.

“The ZBD app is now a Nostr client with full capabilities,” says Zebedee co-founder and CTO, Andre Neves, 31. nostr:note1dtj5mwudtzryy7jw49hhcygw0hy2feqkvf25hu2qw596a8y2zf6s9vzzjc

This is cool, but it's still a pity that ZBD requires KYC

I downloaded it and got to the part where they ask to track my app usage on my phone. Instant uninstall.

Only KYC if you need a larger balance

No, no, no. This only works if there’s a free market of different ideologies and ethics. So long as clients aren’t ACTUAL clones, the more diverse the ecosystem the better it is for EVERYONE! Get concerned if there’s no one who DISAGREES with you. Not the other way around: https://royalsociety.org/topics-policy/projects/biodiversity/why-is-biodiversity-important/

💯 Also, the nature of building on open source means plenty of “mutations” to help the ecosystem evolve and proliferate. The recent Amethyst/Onyx fork was an incredible real-time example where users and devs with competing value sets and ideologies quickly forked the dominant Android client for their own purposes.
