This is the current struggle we are facing and must overcome so nostr (and privacy at large) can be successful. But as my cryptography prof said, cryptography is hard enough, don't make it more confusing by using incorrect language. I understand how to do SHA256 with computers, but not with a pencil and paper.

i don't think that non-technical people need to understand cryptography beyond what it means and what it does. just like me, as a non-butcher, doesn't need to understand how the sausages are made. i just need to know that they're delicious.

Wrong, you know a lot more about how sausages are made just by looking at them than an average person knows about cryptography.
