i cringe when people compare the nsec to only a password; it is an identity -- protect it like one

my nostrcon talk will cover an intro to cryptography so we can normalize the nsec

good comparison

Those asymmetrical cyphers mmmm

My nsec, my choice. ✊🏻

Isnt there something about seedsigner and nsec?

not sure 🤔

Thanka for sharing i will check it out when i can 🫂🤙

I offen use the password comparison when explaining Nostr to newbies - so they can get a basic understanding but once they dive in deaper it becomes more clearer how important the NSEC is...

Very well said 👏

How can you make normal people understand cryptography? I think they can, but we will need animations.

This is the current struggle we are facing and must overcome so nostr (and privacy at large) can be successful. But as my cryptography prof said, cryptography is hard enough, don't make it more confusing by using incorrect language. My goal is to find language that will convey the nsec's importance and still simple enough for most to understand. Sned prayers ✨

We will def need animations! Gotta figure out how to do those now 😂🤝🤙

What do you mean by "understand cryptography?"

I understand how to do SHA256 with computers, but not with a pencil and paper.

i don't think that non-technical people need to understand cryptography beyond what it means and what it does. just like me, as a non-butcher, doesn't need to understand how the sausages are made. i just need to know that they're delicious.

💯

I contemplated signing up for a butchery course. I like knowing how things work.

Wrong, you know a lot more about how sausages are made just by looking at them than an average person knows about cryptography.

i also know about cryptography. the average person on the street is different.

This is nonsensical.

Yes! I don't think these concepts should be turned into analogies & obscured away. I learned it, others can too.
