Pulled the Rossa di Milano onions. These onions are great keepers all the way to April and good growers better than most hybrids. Highly recommended if you live in intermediate or long day.

I've been growing these for at least 10 years. I like them. I just wish I could get them to bulb up a bit bigger. Some are fist size I get a fair amount of egg sized onions. Any advice?
Favorite variety. Our were massive this season. Overall a great year for alliums.
It was. Especially garlic for me. I like to grow my onions in clusters of 3. That way they stay medium size but I get an overall larger total yield.
Good tip!
Yeah we do the same. I sow 4-5 seeds per cell in trays, thin to 3 plants and plant them out in clusters. Works beautifully and a great way to pack on more yield into a small space. π€
I go back in forth now with methods, but I think I slightly prefer sowing them in rows in flats. About 4 or 5 rows and several seeds per inch. Then when ready I just scoop out in chunks and stick in the ground. Onions are pretty resilient. Sometimes I just drop the small starts I do not want to plant on the ground, come back a week later and they have rooted and are growing.
