Yeah Nostr is still over the average person's head.

I just realized while trying to log in on a computer why the Damus app wouldn't let me post. There was nothing anywhere in that app explaining that because I had used the public key I couldn't post (it DOES make sense after knowing that that's why but I wasn't given this info on that client.)

Now I'm trying to understand what I need to do in order to use it on my phone & it looks like a 20 step process???

There's so much barrier to entry it means this will be an echo chamber if that doesn't change / become simpler & clearer.

ARE there any other iphone apps (even if they are testflight stage, just curious because I AM keeping tabs on the entire social media landscape as major changes unfold.)

Also FWIW I don't have a crypto wallet of any type & Nostr seems to have evolved to a place where it looks ALMOST necessary.

It's not necessary, but as I told you on Bluesky đŸ«‚đŸ’œ đŸ€™đŸ» Being able to give content creators a little bit of money for content that I enjoyed or found valuable is truly different and just feels right when you try it. It's how social media should have always been instead of monetizing user's personal information.

Paying for private relay access allows me to pay for services I use, because they have real world costs. I like to pay for services I use.

And since Nostr was built by Bitcoiners that understand that the current financial system is broken, of course Nostr is going to use a better financial system for payments for these sorts of things.

If you like decentralized communication, you will love decentralized money.

I have the same complaint, about the crypto obsession here, but really it’s not complicated at all once you start using it. There are a few nostr apps on the App Store tho, just search.

You don't have to use Bitcoin if you don't want to. The majority of people on Nostr, at this time, are Bitcoiners, because Bitcoiners built Nostr.

Decentralized communication and decentralized money go hand in hand.

In time everyone will become a bitcoiner

I just need to try out some other clients because Damus doesn’t work very well anyway. I also need to figure out and try the private key app on iOS, it’s sus giving random sites your nsec.

Nostore is great, or so I hear. I don't use iOS. Never have, never will. 😉 Damus is the best and most feature rich iOS client for Nostr though. I'm curious what issues you're having? You can check out Plebstr too.

Threads don’t load properly. Like I’ll tap on a post and see they’re replying to someone but it just doesn’t load. I also don’t like the way threading works in general, it’s very difficult to see a conversation.

If a post doesn't load it's probably because you and the poster don't have a relay in common. That said, threads on nearly all apps need to be improved. Coracle.social is probably the best at handling threads.

I don’t think that’s it, it’ll even be posts from ppl I can already see in the thread. Also I read some relays rebroadcast notes to other relays to avoid the missing content issue.

#[4] you might try plebstr. It takes a different approach to threads you might like better.
