My friend nuked his nsec. He says he has access to his npub and an 8 word seed phrase. He's not sure what it's even from.

I believe he generated his keys from #Amethyst. Our guess is that he is screwed? Any heroes of there with more ideas?

I think Alby's signer generates seed phrases as an nsec backup.

Ah, yes. I think you're right.

Or check if they used Amber, it has seed words too

That was my first thought. I don't think he did though. Hoping Alby is the answer

8 words doesn't sound right. I thought it generated 12 words like a btc seed phrase but i haven't seen anyone talk about that in a long time. I thought it died out. Now im curious

amethyst would be nsec only. dead unfortunately

8 word seed, coinos? 🤔🤔🤔🤔

send the nostr forensics team ✨

also, could be some form of 'ncryptsec' voodoo. (password w pub)

Thank for the help (I'm the one who wrote down an 8-word seed phrase with my npub). Have no idea how I did that.

Created a new ID (and made sure I have my keys this time).

Will my old account eventually be purged from relays, or will there always be two of me?

The relay operators decide, but if you or someone trusted runs a relay, it can store your old data for as long as you don't delete it & keep it running.
