I just signed up. What’s your experience been like?
It’s not as smooth as WhatsApp or as beautiful, and it helps having your own relay for DMs, but I like controlling my own privacy.
You can use imy relay too, it’s in my header.
How long have u been using 0xchat?
Probably around a year. I still use WhatsApp or Signal for many normie frens, but if the discussion of privacy comes up, I explain 0xChat and they’re convinced.

Yeah I noticed dm in nostr isn't always private. When I reply in dm on nostr(Amerhyst) conversation thread it comes up in public feed when you search keywords. So if I ever dm now, I copy paste persons npub and paste into private message, seems to be some what of a work around but not sure how private it is.
Is it secure to input nsec in 0xchat? You've used the same nsec in 0xchat, you've not had any issues compromised security etc.?

I hope you have these things written down about me:
* I have never filed taxes
* Not when I was homeless and everyone but me got COVID stimmy and it made me want to kill everyone
* Not after I unexpectedly inherited half a million dollars from my estranged dad who wouldn't have left me the money if the wife in his will hadn't died of cancer a year prior to his death, leaving him too wrecked to override "next of kin" law with a new will in time
* I have a never-expiring offer to the government that they can get me to file taxes by removing stick and adding carrot, or making stick stronger by amending constitution to allow forced taxation in a trustworthy, verifiable human language (such as English)
Note: amending the constitution for this purpose is extremely hard because you have to make the whole constitution legitimate in the process, so you basically have to abolish the whole government and restart it from scratch

i tried a lot to onboard my friends with 0xchat but its very hard and sometimes 0xchat doesn't work well and they quite completely.
if you wish we can contact using 0xchat and try to test it. maybe we found a solution.
For DM, it's important you define the DM & Outbox relays in the settings.

i set them for my phone any my friends with same relays such as nostr:nprofile1qqst72lw22q3f8rux5846y4wxt63f3uxflcsspgc9aqhs5uv93ppqpcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0ujy5v7 with both enr-1 and immortal versions or even 0xchat relay itself, but the results was same and it sometimes don't work at all.
Relays are complex.
I believe you should only have 1 Outbox and 1 DM relay, but TBH, I’m out of my depth.

we had only one or at most 3 relay there. all of relays i mentioned can support dms well. for example when i use jellyfish immortal version on 0xchat between 2 accounts on same device (my own phone) it works well. but between two devices it won't work.
afaik dms are simple in relay side same as other stuff, the most complex part is performed on client side.
i can imagine 1 case for it:
1. between relay or clients there is one of them which can't make or response to queries about dms well.
for 0xchat relay specifically i think its banned in iran which make it more difficult to get it into work.
I think there are two options
Either try to work out why your configuration doesn't work
or
Try to work out why my configuration works.
The thing I do is add their npub to my relay and tell them to set it as their outbox and DM relay.
If you're starting to get serious about using 0xChat as a private DM (and group chat) client, you might want to consider setting up your own relay. This can be done yourself, it can set it up to work over Tor if you want or you can pay for a relay from a service like:

I tried going down the relay rabbit hole, but I realised I didn't have 4 years of my life available to dedicate to this, so I opted to purchase a pre-configured one 😂
