I remember when Simpson ties were required by code after hurricane Alicia in '83. Staples were also banned for composite shingles, though Dad and I drove around checking all the roofs we'd done in the past few years and hardly list a shingle, much less a whole roof.
I had a pastor who did a lot of work with Habitat For Humanity and was very good. But he told me the first time he was on a job site, someone told him “Grab those 16 pennies and tie in the joists.” He replied,”No problem. I just have three questions: what’s a 16 penny, what’s a joist, and how do you tie it in?”
