If you have friends that believe it is okay for big government and big tech to collude in the name of “protecting” you from free speech……And then censor voices it doesn’t agree with, it may be worth asking how that works for the citizens of countries like North Korea.

If they understand that, it may encourage them to be part of the solution.

They will believe in it up until they are the ones who are censored

On a long enough timeline we all become enemies of the state. -Trotsky ?

For many yes - but every person counts, because sometimes a small influence in someone is the tipping point that brings everything together where they finally “see” it. Maybe, that person goes on to influence thousands or millions of others because of their own humility in changing their mind.

We were all once blind to it/ had less power affect change.

And now the power is ours.

The people are the movement and the movement is the change…

Well said!

I often wonder how long ago North Korea would have collapsed without external support from China

Agree, but #nostr needs mechanisms on how to deal with illegal content - just saying "permissionless" is not going to fly with the majority of people once some truly awful stuff gets posted here

Let’s also not forget:

Canada, Europe, Middle East, and many other countries/areas

110%

And ask about their most despised political opponents (usually Trump) taking over the system of speech control.

They will see it when they are ready. Maybe our touchpoint is the one they need.

I'm in the same boat, it's hard to explain. Most can't imagine that things can go sideways quickly, living in a relative stable democracy. I tend to ask who is going to decide what is wright/truth and wrong and then ask to give an example from the past in which that worked out well,

My issue is getting them to zoom out to that level. The majority of people I talk to are too consumed by their day to day to be able to think beyond it.

I guess the silver lining to increasing levels of injustice is a wider lens. At some point the mounting pain, frustration and helplessness will translate into movement.

I just hope it isn’t politically-manipulated when it happens.

Why are you a bitcoiner ? What is the main reason ?

Primary reason is the extraordinary positive changes that would happen over time due to the world operating on an honest ledger.

… and thus there will be consequences for bad behavior. Individually, for communities and yes, businesses.
